The Construction Industry Job Boom
It’s fair to say this lockdown hasn’t been easy on any of us, but we’re thrilled to be back at level 3 and level 2 (in Auckland and the rest of New Zealand, respectively) as it means construction is BACK.
Despite there being a lot of disruption to the industry in the last 18 months, the construction sector is booming – and we’re here to help facilitate it!
According to Stats NZ, the construction industry filled 3700 jobs in the June 2021 quarter – an increase of 2.2% compared to the March 2021 quarter. Throughout the country, there is a shortage of tradespeople due to the rise in building activity, particularly from government-backed projects in infrastructure. Why? Border restrictions have limited the flow of people entering the country from overseas, meaning a shortage in skilled and specialised workers in all areas of construction (and beyond).
“We are currently experiencing extreme demand at the moment for construction professionals with strong local experience. Clients who want to attract and secure the best talent in the current marketplace need to understand the environment in which they are recruiting is the most competitive I have seen in 8 years of recruiting construction” – Peter, Director of Lynx Recruitment
